ValexConsulting delivers integrated workflow management software for a major Pharmaceutical Company to assist its Network Operations group in remediation of viruses and spyware

Situation
The department of a major Pharmaceutical Company is involved with discovery and remediation of viruses, spyware and other intrusive applications on over 30,000 computers and servers globally. Recent upsurge of infections made it very difficult for the staff to track the status of the incidents when over 300 of new infections can be discovered daily. In order to electronically distribute notifications and track the workflow of a particular incident, web-based software application needs to be put in place that can be accessed from all the sites in the World.

Solution
Microsoft 3-tiered architecture was implemented utilizing: ASP VBScript, Microsoft® Visual Basic® COM and SQL Server 2000 (TSQL, DTS) as well as integration with existing LDAP architecture and ePolicy Orchestrator®, software made by McAfee. Moreover, tie-ins with Peregrine ServiceCenter® were necessary to involve helpdesk staff. The new application offers quick and easy way to distribute personalized notifications to the users of the systems as well as any appropriate involved parties (site manager, regional manager, site technicians, helpdesk, IT director, etc.). Customizable workflow and escalation rules are at the center of the application and allow for tasks to be enforced by the dependencies stored in the database. Management can see the successful resolution and progress reports based on locations, dates, virus activities, etc.

Benefits
Department staff does not have to be increased due to the recent fluctuations in the number of incidents. Users of the system know what the status of the infection is at any point along the way.

Fast Facts
Number of months to build the application: 2
Number of developers to build the application: 2
Number of Incidents: 0-300/Day
